Such factors are beyond human control.\u00a0 In such cases, early recognition of their existence, a timely diagnosis and an appropriate treatment\/therapy plan can make a difference for the children and families involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it is important to be aware of the various avoidable risk factors for developmental disorders during the phase of pregnancy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This article is based on the infographic that outlines steps that can be taken towards a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also lays down certain avoidable risk factors.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Genetic factors<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marriages within the families<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Maternal health problems<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uncontrolled blood sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uncontrolled blood pressure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thyroid problems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kidney related problems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Auto-immune problems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Infections in the mother like HIV, tetanus, herpes<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Nutritional deficiencies<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Folic acid deficiency<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iron deficiency<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Calcium Deficiency<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iodine deficiency<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Substance abuse or addiction<\/h3>\n<h2><b>What can you do to ensure a safe pregnancy?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Ensure adequate nutrition\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nutrition can be supported adequately by taking supplements under your doctor\u2019s guidance.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vitamin and mineral supplements to prevent deficiencies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vitamin K supplementation (If the mother is on drugs that can affect the liver function such as anti-epileptics)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Immunization of the mother<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Important vaccines should be taken as per doctor advised schedule.
