Sometimes, parents or caregivers may notice that a child is developing a little differently or more slowly than others the same age. This is where early intervention can play a life-changing role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early intervention doesn\u2019t try to &#8220;fix&#8221; a child. Instead, it offers gentle, personalised support to help the child thrive, learn in their own way, and build important life skills,\u00a0 all while supporting parents through the process. <\/span>To understand more about what early intervention is, and how it may benefit your child, please check this <a href=\"https:\/\/nayi-disha.org\/article\/urgent-need-early-intervention-child-special-needs\">informative video<\/a>\u00a0created in collaboration with Latika Roy Memorial Foundation.<\/p>\n<h2>What is early intervention?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early intervention refers to a range of services and supports for children from birth to 6 years of age who may have delays in development or who are at risk for developmental disabilities. These supports are built around a child\u2019s strengths, interests, and unique learning style.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Think of it as creating the right environment, guidance, and tools to nurture your child\u2019s potential,\u00a0 whether it&#8217;s helping them communicate, play, move, or interact more comfortably with the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These services can be offered at home, in therapy centers, or through inclusive learning spaces and preschools.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Why is early intervention important?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The early years of a child\u2019s life are a time of rapid brain development. This makes it the <\/span><b>most sensitive window for learning new skills and building healthy habits<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Supporting a child early means:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skills can be learned before patterns become harder to change.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Families get tools, support, and clarity early in the journey.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children are more likely to participate meaningfully in school, play, and relationships later on.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-esteem and emotional security are built early.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s important to remember: early intervention does not mean something is \u201cwrong\u201d with your child. It simply means they may need some extra support to build on their natural abilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Who can benefit from early intervention?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children who are born prematurely or with a low birth weight<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children with a diagnosed condition (like Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, etc.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children who are not meeting developmental milestones (for example, not sitting by 10 months or not speaking by 2 years)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children who are very quiet, withdrawn, hyperactive, or have trouble interacting<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children with feeding difficulties, low muscle tone, or sensory differences<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Children whose caregivers feel something is \u201cnot quite right\u201d,\u00a0 your instincts matter!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You do not always need a formal diagnosis to begin early intervention. If you have any concerns, it is always better to start support early rather than wait.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Who is part of an early intervention team?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An early intervention team works with you, not just for you. You, as the parent or caregiver, are the most important part of this team. The professionals bring their expertise, but your understanding, daily routines, and love shape your child\u2019s progress.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depending on your child\u2019s needs, the team may include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Developmental pediatrician<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Assesses overall development and provides medical guidance<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Psychologist<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Supports emotional well-being, behavior, and parent-child bonding<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Speech and language therapist<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Helps with communication, language, feeding, and expression<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>\u092b\u093c\u093f\u091c\u093c\u093f\u092f\u094b\u0925\u0947\u0930\u0947\u092a\u093f\u0938\u094d\u091f<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Supports movement, strength, posture, and physical coordination<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Occupational therapist<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Helps with daily life skills, sensory processing, and motor development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Special educator<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Provides learning strategies based on the child\u2019s unique pace and interests<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Social worker or counsellor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Supports family well-being, connects you with services, and offers emotional support<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together, they create a customised plan for your child \u2014 and adjust it over time, based on what is helping.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>When should you seek early intervention?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s always okay to check if:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your child is missing multiple milestones<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You notice changes in movement, sleep, feeding, or emotional responses<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your child seems disconnected, overly passive, or very unsettled<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have received a diagnosis, or your doctor has flagged a risk for developmental delays<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can start by seeing a developmental pediatrician or speaking with a psychologist or pediatrician. Success in early intervention looks like:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your child is more comfortable and confident in daily life<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communication, movement, or play improves, even in small ways<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your child is more engaged with their surroundings and relationships<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You, as a caregiver, feel more equipped and supported<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyday routines\u00a0 like feeding, bedtime, or outings feel easier<\/span>Your child is better prepared for preschool or structured learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember: progress may be slow and uneven, and that\u2019s okay.
