Being a parent of child with special need is no less than being a super or a special parent. Every aspect of parenting becomes more magnified. The central focus of a special parent’s life is often the child. The severity of the child’s disability often determines the extent of dependency the child has on their parent.

However, if you want to take care of your child, you also must take care of yourself. Self-care is mandatory & hence should be considered a priority – for you! We often think that personal health only refers to individual’s physical health. But, health has multiple dimensions. This article talks about physical, emotional, social and spiritual health.

Here are some tips to help you understand your own needs and ways to implement selfcare in everyday life.

A child develops best in a happy and supportive community. So, why should the care of a special child be the primary focus of the parents alone?

To ensure an inclusive society for a child with a developmental disability it is important that the community shares the social responsibility. One should not hesitate to seek help from family members or society to avoid burnout. Also, see this video in which parent champions talk about the important role of family members.
