Key Takeaways:

We are currently working on the key takeaways for this article. They will be available soon.

Clinical Psychologist and Dyslexia Therapist, Afshan Jabeen hands out some tips to bear in mind when working with children born with special needs.

  • Ensure a child involves himself/herself in all activities through all the sense organs. This helps them participate holistically and engage themselves fully in everything they do.
  • Minimize screen-time to the extent possible. Experiential learning is a far better teacher for your child.
  • Prompt and help your child understand ‘Cause & Effect’ in everyday life activities – Encourage them to ask “Why?”.
  • Social stimulation is important for your child’s learning. Guide and help them socialize with people outside of the home environment while ensuring they are well aware of personal safety in the process of meeting and greeting individuals outside of their immediate home environment.
